[continued from below] Harcourt Road/Connaught Road was swarmed - TopicsExpress

[continued from below] Harcourt Road/Connaught Road was swarmed with people, tents, furniture and supplies. Furniture? yes, chairs, sofa, sofa beds, and real beds. Groups girls were doing homework. Judging from their textbooks, they were merely high school students. What made them willing to be swatting in the hot fall sun to do their homework when they could afford to do it in the air-continued home? Another scene that impressed me very much was a young dad teaching his under 6 year old daughter to read the Chinese characters used in the posters pasted on the highway divider. The little gal followed his dad very attentively and the dad was happy seeing his efforts rewarded. Some bigger gals were sitting on the road floor writing Chinese posters with their sign pens. Their calligraphy needed a lot of practice, to the say the least. Plenty of tourists around: both Gwai-lo and barbarians from the north. Also, many local parents taking their kids out for an educational tour. Soft drinks, bottled water, snacks, cookies and candies were freely available. Being a modest person [am I?] I just drank my home-brewed Black Dragon tea in a reused sturdy plastic orange bottle bought back from California and declined the offer of free snacks.; reason being I was not tear-gassed and therefore do not feel I deserve the freebies. Judging the furniture items on the road, I realized that many of the angry kids could not have come from Tong Fong [one room apartment size about 150 ft sq]. Some sofa beds were definitely better than my Ikea shit. Some beds are queen-sized. I met a trade union man that I knew from my interest and donation to last years container port strike. I made a cash donation to his union. That trade union executive tried to write me a receipt on a piece of used paper napkin. I told him to forget about it because he looked more honest than I am. I also passed on my knowledge on how to demobilize vehicles just in case the patriotic transport workers decided to live up to their threat: to remove the barricades on Queensway by heavy earth removers on 2014 1015 Wed [Day 18]. [next 100 words deleted]. He agreed to pass on my tips to his boss. I hate MTR and decided to walk from Queensway to Causeway Bay as it was a sunny and dry day [like northern California]. However I only reached Stewart Road when I felt very groggy [did sleep very much last night] and tired. So I had to call it a day and went home. I guess I am no longer that teenage dirt poor boy that walked 5 km daily to school because of difficulty in getting on a bus. At any rate, my body weight has doubled since.
