...currently reading The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran, and I love this: Fain would I take with me all that is here. But how shall I? A voice cannot carry the tongue and the lips that gave it wings. Alone must it seek the ether. And alone and without his nest shall the eagle fly across the sun. ...now, in these lines The Prophet, whose name is Almustafa, is speaking DIRECTLY about not being able to take the last 12 years worth of friendships, pain, loves, etc, with him as he sails across the sea back to his home. INDIRECTLY, however, on a deeper level, he is calling to mind the inner search for who we are. When we begin our journey within, it is impossible to take anyone or anything with you, no matter how much you love them. The inner search for Self is a path no one can follow you on, you are utterly and completely alone. This is why so many people fear the inward journey, not only afraid of becoming nothing instead of something, but also afraid of letting go of the ideas and beliefs they carry around like unwanted baggage, including their identity. It is the same with death...you just cant take it with you. Even your children, your spouse, your grandmother or grandchild...they cannot come with you on that journey. However, it will bring them back as close to you as the breath contained within the voice. The deeper you travel within yourself, and the more you understand yourself, the closer you become to those whom you love, and not only those, but your love and compassion will continue to expand to include the universe. There is no limit or boundary to you except that which you build around yourself. Well, thats MY interpretation, anyway. lol Peace love and light. =)
