@cwslive hosts a Dreamnight at the Zoo raising money for sick and chronically ill kids and their families Fri. Dec 5th. On Friday, 5th December, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary will host the event ‘Dreamnight at the Zoo’, a free experience for chronically ill and disabled children and their families. Those that attend will receive V.I.P treatment and “up close and personal” encounters with some of Australia’s amazing animals. Dreamnight at the Zoo began in 1996 in the Netherlands. The idea was coined by an animal keeper, who went to his director with the idea that they should host a special event purely for children suffering from cancer, and their families. He understood the variety of reasons that some parents could not take their children out, including expenses and comfort. This occasion therefore had to be a joyful event for the whole family. The first night was such a wonderful experience that it rapidly spread to other Dutch zoos, until finally, in 2002; the Dreamnight at the Zoo Foundation was born. Since its inception, Zoos, Aquaria and Wildlife Institutions throughout the world have started hosting their own special Dreamnight events, with over 240 zoos over 24 countries uniting for the cause. Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary was the first Australian organisation to join the foundation. Dreamnight is a cost free event for children who do not often have opportunities to visit animals in a zoo or sanctuary. This year Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary will be welcoming over 200 children from organisations such as Starlight Childrens Foundation Australia Make a Wish Foundation, Royal Childrens Hospital, Brisbane Foundation, Paradise Kids, Childhood Cancer Support Group and the Oncology Unit at The Tweed and Gold Coast Hospitals. The event sees between 300- 500 guests enjoying the night.
