#dalitwomenfight ~ She was elected in the panchayat elections as a member..it’s been two years since she was elected member but her journey from the day that she assumed her post is not easy. The Sarpanch and the upa-sarpanch of the village asked me to not come to the panchayat because I am a Dalit and a woman…but I told them that I am going to come and sit on my chair even if u don’t like… In a few days I came to know that the 8 members of the panchayat wrote a letter mentioning that they do not want me in the panchayat…. GJ-02 (name changed) raised the demand for construction of road going towards the dalit burial ground..the village head got angry over this demand and abused her on caste lines.. she was abused in the public place in presence of all members..Gj-02 has filed a complaint against the village head under the SC/ST POA act..the accused were arrested and released on bail after 24 hrs...the village head is yet not suspended for caste discrimination. GJ-02 is yet to get compensation as per PoA rules... GJ-02 is determined to get justice at any cost and will not step down until her perpetrators are punished.. GJ-02 is a very strong willed and smart dalit woman panch...while the accused were abusing her she recorded their statements in her phone which helped her strengthen the case!!!!~ at the National Tribunal - Violence Against Dalit Women in India, via Sanghapali Aruna Kornana & Prachi Beula.
