[extract from Diary of a Heretic - REAL Magic!!!] The last - TopicsExpress

[extract from Diary of a Heretic - REAL Magic!!!] The last evening of the year was wonderful. I helped a good friend out at his hotel by performing some magic for his guests on New Year’s Eve. And an amazing synchronicity occurred. One of my magic effects involves getting an audience member to secretly draw a picture without anyone (including me) knowing what they drew. I then have to try to determine what the picture is. However even before this part of the act I’ve already had a few other audience members come up with a random 3-5 digit number, by selecting a few number cards from a shuffled up deck. This number is then written out in large digits on a white board and left in full view. On this particular evening we were at the point in the performance when a woman had drawn a picture and I’d deduced that is was “emotional.” I also went on to say that the image was of something or someone that is no longer alive. The woman gulped at this point. Then I asked her to close her eyes and focus on the image while I drew something on the white board, standing in front of it so no one could see it. I asked her to open her eyes and describe her picture. “A shaggy haired dog,” she said. And I stepped away from the white board revealing a shaggy haired dog (drawn just under the four digit number from before). She and everyone else were adequately amazed. However, the icing on the cake came when I asked her what the dog’s name was. She said, “He was called Jack and he was my most beloved pet. He died about ten years ago and I never stop thinking about him. He was like a child to me. I’ve never stopped feeling connected to him, and his name comes up all the time.” I then asked her to get out a mobile phone if she had one on. She did. “Ok I want you to imagine yourself sending a text message to someone about Jack. Can you do that?” She nodded. I continued, “Ok what four numbers on your mobile phone would you need to press to spell Jack?” She looked at her phone and then lifted her head saying “5225” as I stepped further away from the white board allowing the full shock to hit her and the audience. The four digit number written out above the picture of jack the shaggy dog was 5225. But the final piece of magic, the genuine synchronicity which shocked me more than any of the others, was yet to come. The woman said, through tears, “I never realised. I honestly never realised. I’ve been using jack’s name for years, probably from the time he died. My cash card’s pin number is 5225.” You could have heard a pin drop!
