[from Grandpa Martin] As I write this post, the Team Cohen page - TopicsExpress

[from Grandpa Martin] As I write this post, the Team Cohen page is at 8,982 likes! We find this amazing... and humbling... to know that so many people are following my grandsons battles with CHD. To know that so many are anxious to follow his progress and are offering prayers and good thoughts for Cohen is very comforting to his family. For the overwhelming majority who read this, understand that the rest of this post is not aimed at you, I wish I didnt have to write this. Sadly, when there is a gathering of thousands of individuals on social media, there will always be a few bad eggs. Lately some very negative comments were posted... and some hurtful PMs sent... that serve only to cause distress to the family. This must stop. This Facebook page was created with the intent of providing pictures and information to Cohens immediate family and a small group of friends... as a means of offering updates in a timely and efficient manner. (Imagine trying to send dozens of emails and texts daily... along with scores of phone calls.) This page has been a blessing to his parents by providing a simple method of sharing news of Cohens ups and downs, the celebrations and concerns. We did not create this page with the intent of having it grow this large, but we are grateful for so many followers. If we had expected negativity, we would have taken steps with the creation of this page to make this a closed group... with membership by invitation only. But again, we had no expectations other than to have an easy option for updates. Unfortunately, a small handful of people have been banned. An extremely small number considering the thousands who are regularly engaged with this page. Will more be banned? I hope not, but I also wont tolerate harshness. Some have questioned the many posts that list fundraisers. Please understand that nearly every such effort to support Team Cohen has originated from outside the family. Of course we are grateful for the kindness of friends and strangers, and of course we will share information about legitimate fundraisers on this page. Fundraisers are a welcome necessity for any family affected by a childs illness. Gasoline, lodging, food, and other essentials are a huge expense. Imagine how much it costs you to spend a few days away from home... then consider that in his fourteen months of life Cohen has spent just a few days at home. Every day that hes been hospitalized, at least one parent has been by his side. Its unkind and cowardly for people to attack the family through this Facebook page... and as I made clear above, I will not hesitate to remove the offenders from this community. If you have a specific complaint and feel the need to speak your piece, please contact me personally. You can reach me through the Team Cohen email: teamcohenallen (at) gmail. Be assured though, this proud father & grandfather has a short fuse when it comes to attacks on the family.
