It is a day when we honor mothers for all their hard work in giving us life and their dedication in our upbringing. It is a day when the focus is on mothers. But, in the Solomon Islands capital, Honiara, it is fathers who have “hijacked the Mothers Day.” Reports say that fathers have invaded the watering holes and dance places, celebrating Mothers Day, leaving the mothers at home to cook and look after the children. “This is not good,” complains a woman who was left stranded with the usual chores. “This is supposed to be Mothers’ Day, not Fathers Day.
