#icebucketchallenge Im a baseball fan. Always have been, always will be. When I was a dough eyed little kid I listened voraciously to every story, every legend about the game. The grainy audio of Lou Gehrig standing in the midst of a packed Old Yankee Stadium as he bid farewell to the game made an impact on me. I didnt understand what ALS was back then, but I felt the pain in his voice and the indelible courage it took for Mr. Gehrig to say Today, I consider myself, the luckiest man on the face of the earth... I may have been given a bad break, but Ive got an awful lot to live for He spoke these words even though ALS took away his love, baseball, and shortly after, his life. He was one of the greatest players, but more importantly, one of the greatest human beings to ever play the game. In the face of overwhelming adversity, Mr. Gehrigs sincereity, his message of courage and hope, is an inspiration to us all when we feel discouraged. ALS stands for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, which is a progressive neuro degenerative disease that effects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal chord. It is also known as Lou Gehrigs Disease. This is a fatal disease that has no cure yet, but with every donation is a step forward and little more hope for all those affected. Thank you Nick Torres and Allison Davey for nominating me for the Ice Bucket Challenge. The Ice Bucket Challenge has raised an estimated $5.5 million dollars as of August 15th. I applaud both people who have participated in the fun of the ice bucket challenge, in doing so raising awareness, and those who have donated money to truly impact ALS research. Not everyone has $100 dollars to spare, and spreading awareness and understanding has a very real value that we should all appreciate. As for me, I decided to break the rules and both film a video and donate to the ALS Association. You can donate to the cause or learn more information on ALS at alsa.org/donate. I challenge Andrew Crawford, Russell Craig, Joey Graham, Jose Bailey, Nathan Cox, and Reston Hartsell. You have 24 hours!
