@jameswhitlowdelano for @everydayclimatechange A snapshot pano from a great day in Beijing today with @everydayclimatechange contributor, @sean_gallagher_photo . We climbed up Jingshan for the view over The Forbidden City on a warm winter day. Sean pulled out his Beijing Air Quality Index app and declared that it was only PM 2.5 particulate reading of 188, which in Beijing is considered moderately polluted versus in the US smog capital of Los Angeles where it would be on the the boundary between unhealthy level & very unhealthy, The closure of coal-fired steel & glass factories in neighboring Hebei Province have not yet had much of an effect on air quality in the capital. Release of greenhouse gases in China remain at unprecedented levels. Older Beijingers remember being able to skate in parks nearby like Beihai & Houhai for 2 months in winter. Now skating is limited to one month in the warmer winters now.
