@khulud Khamis: a screaming absence of Palestinian Feminist - TopicsExpress

@khulud Khamis: a screaming absence of Palestinian Feminist organizations from the upcoming conference: 1325 - Women Leading (or Leaders) for Peace and Security, scheduled for 31/10/13. Our absence from this initiative is of course not a coincidence... and says a lot about the initiative itself. Maybe the organizers did try to reach out to Palestinian Feminist organizations, as I heard from a colleague today. Theyve been meeting for two whole years now, and several days before the conference they are trying to get a Palestinian Feminist speaker! For what? To say they did their best? They had two years. As feminists, they should have stopped and thought: why dont Palestinian Feminists want to be our partners? If they truly wanted us as their full partners, there was a way. To listen to our unique needs and come as equals. To make us partners means a lot more than just coming to us with a plan. It means we will be full and equal partners in the whole process, from its very beginning all the way to the end. They cant say now we tried. No. They have failed. It is not us who refused to be part. It is them who refused to adapt their thought and come to us as equals. They should have reflected on our refusal and acted accordingly. No national action plan could be comprehensive and include all groups of women if you exclude certain groups from the beginning by not listening to their unique needs and making them true partners all the way - from the process of brainstorming, thinking, learning, designing, and implementing.
