#love | LOVE & DEMONS. We are all possessed, and even though our desire to find everlasting love compels us to exorcise this demon, this legion for some, we fail. Everyone has that little quirk, that little thing that potentially dooms their love life from the moment they set their eyes on someone. For some of us its like a bad habit, and even though we try our best to avoid it, we find ourselves falling right back into it because its what we know. For others its like the forbidden fruit, you know you’re not supposed to touch it, but you do it anyway. For a few its like a survival instinct; that fight or flight impulse that makes you want to run and hide just to avoid any situation that could lead to emotional trauma. And for a handful, its like trying to figure out what came first, the chicken or the egg; moments filled with obsessing over the simple and mundane. I call those little quirks our love demons, those little things that keep us from experiencing the true essence of love because they either distract us from finding it, stop us from committing to it once its found, or sabotage us once we’re in it. These demons come in many different shapes and sizes, habits and traits, characteristics and personalities. One person’s demon maybe their inability to stay faithful, and another’s could be their inability to leave someone that’s been unfaithful. One person’s demon could be their fear of rejection that stops them from pursuing love, and another’s could be their fear of love that makes them reject someone who might be great for them. One person’s demon could be their emotionally and physically abusive traits, and another’s could be their tendency to tolerate abuse. One person’s demon could be their manipulative habits, and another’s could be their gullibility and how easily they are blinded by love; like the saying goes, To let a fool kiss you is stupid. To let a kiss fool you is worse.” If you have ever wondered why your relationships never flourish or mature into something worthwhile; if you have ever wondered why things always seem to hit a brick wall or end before they have even begun; its because you haven’t been honest with yourself—you haven’t exorcised, confronted, and resolved that conflict between love, and your demons.
