#lovespeaks LifeGroup Questions James 1:19 (NIV) “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry” This week Dave taught that we all yearn for deep relationships where we are heard, known and loved without judgment or fear of rejection. Though we all desire these kinds of relationships, they seem to be increasingly rare for many of us. If we want to experience these deep, meaningful relationships, we will need to learn how to develop them. Dave suggested that the foundation for great communication is great listening. Then he identified 5 Challenges to Good Listening: 1. Unmanaged Distractions 2. Undisciplined Habits 3. Unrecognized Self-focus 4. Unfiltered Responses 5. Unconscious Fixing Review this list and talk about how you see these challenges popping up in relationships you are in, or ones you are trying to develop. Which ones are your biggest challenges and why? Of the 2 or 3 Challenges that are hindering your relationships the most, what can you do to minimize them this week? In addition to the 5 Challenges to Good Listening, Dave talked about 5 Habits of Great Listeners: 1. Great Listeners are Ruthless with Distractions 2. Great Listeners Communicate Interest 3. Great Listeners are Patient 4. Great Listeners Empathize 5. Great Listeners are Great Reflectors Review the list and talk about the habits you appreciate most when you experience them in your close friendships. Which do you need most from your friends right now and why? Which of these habits would your spouse, family or closest friends appreciate seeing most from you right now and why? Close by each member sharing one relationship where they want God to help them become a better listener. Have someone lead a closing prayer.
