#marcwithacsongoftheday Another one from the I totally thought that THIS was gonna be the hit from this album pile, Already Dead is so unflinchingly honest that it makes me queasy. I remember dates, places and smells when I hear this track. And ultimately, I kind of always forget that the song exists because few people ever mention it to me. We all know someone similar to the person studied in this song. If you listen and cant figure out what Im talking about, please refer back to the Simpsons episode where Frank Grimes cant wrap his head around the continued existence of Homer Simpson. I was in a situation as a youth where I had to be forcibly removed from my place of residency. It occurred because I gave the slightest hint of what was going on to a teacher. Id been scared to say something, like most victims are, I was scared of getting in trouble with the people that were perpetrating the problems. I was scared of my elders going to jail. I was scared that the other kids would find out and make more fun of me than they already did. Eventually, the authorities were contacted, and it was decided that Id have to vacate immediately. As in, Id have to be yanked out of school right that very second so that nobody at home could get wind of what was going down, stashed at the home of a trusted family friend, and then literally shipped off out of state to where I wouldnt be found. While it was all going down, I thought many selfish things, like how mad one of my parents would be at me, and how much I was going to miss my stuff. The strange part about it all is that while I hadnt been planning on leaving - I was too young, too full of anxiety and too in the middle of nowhere to try to run away - I had packed two bags for no good reason a few nights prior. I had a feeling that Id be leaving, but I couldnt put my finger on why or how.
