#marcwithacsongoftheday It would be hard to tell you precisely what this song from my 2009 album Losing Salt is about without giving you three very, very long stories that barely intersect with each other. Ill try instead to tell you three bullet points that do intersect in the song: 1. Astral projection. 2. Long distance relationships (vaguely, somewhat related to #1) 3. My first heavy experience with a narcotic. Not all of these happened at the same time. The one I will go into slightly further detail about is #1. I once had an experience that I strongly believed to be a visit from the afterlife. However, it happened while I was asleep, so it was more than likely just a very, very vivid dream about someone I knew so well that their actions as a ghost would be predictably unpredictable. Mostly, they were doing something so unbelievably them as a spirit with the ability to move about through space, time and consciousness that it felt like yep, theres an afterlife, and even death doesnt make them less of a jerkface. Of course, I mostly dont believe in that stuff. Or sometimes I do. Im conflicted. There was a strict upbringing imposed solely by a church that my relatives were not a part of. I know that seems odd, but they were so convincing with their fire and brimstone hat tricks that its always instilled a fear of a baptist god in me, but on most days, I remember that the worst people Ive ever met that werent related to me were all involved with said church, so how effective was their belief system? Effective enough to scare you into doing what they said, but not effective enough to keep themselves in line. Some days Im an atheist. Some days Im a believer in a higher power that purposefully made things confusing. Most days I just try not to think about that stuff and be nice. And not in a lets be nice just in case of judgment day way. In a lets be nice because it wont cause any harm way. This song is on a bizarre album called Losing Salt.
