[mashimaro] Petron consultant Todd Purves admires fiery Pinoy coaches, hopes to learn from them too Two games into his role as consultant for the Petron Blaze Boosters, American coach Todd Purves has already made an impact in the team. According to Petron coach Gee Abanilla, Purves has given the Boosters coaching staff valuable input on the defensive end. The former Indonesia Warriors coach in the ASEAN Basketball League said his role with the team was clear from the get-go. “It’s really a flexible role. I’m here right now as a consultant, to counsel as best I can the coaching staff and just to contribute whatever the management would like me to,” Purves told InterAKTV in an exclusive interview. “So far, we started on some defensive stuff, its principles and systems and I just got warm welcome from the coaching staff and I appreciate being a part of it.” Purves said he feels right at home with other coaches in the league. “In my own personal experience, I’m a fiery coach and a passionate coach myself, so I see the same characteristics in other Filipino coaches,” said Purves, who has stood out on the Petron bench by wearing a suit to the games. “It’s great, it’s part of what I enjoy so much — the intensity. These coaches have obviously done a good job. There are coaches in this league that are already considered legendary.
