#merrychristmas I have made my peace with Christmas. I used to view it as a theologically suspect holiday, largely eaten up by greed and materialism, and causing nearly everyone participating in it no end of stress. I still tend to believe those things, but have let go of the parts of it that used to cause ME stress, and bask in the good cheer that most people have during this time. I dont do much to celebrate it, frankly, though tomorrow I am looking forward to having Christmas dinner with William and Courtney and seeing the twins on their first Christmas. I have never had any bad experiences associated with Christmas, other than the occasional death in the family during the Holidays, but never liked it much, either. I know that it is a terrible time for many people, who have families who dont support them because of any number of reasons, all bad, and for whom it conjures up bad memories and bad experiences. And my advice to those who suffer in this way is to make Christmas your own. You are not required to participate in any part of it you dont want to, and you are certainly not required to be miserable. Develop your own traditions, whether or not they match those of the rest of the world, and make them meaningful to you. Celebrate it with those you love, if you have any nearby, and if you dont, love yourself. Tis the season: Be nice to yourself, too.
