(music nerds only!) i prefer the democratic nature of 440. In 432, sure, you get a prettier picture, but that picture is at the expense of all the complexity and intricacy of 440. To take it to a ridiculous extreme, Nazi society - to the casual observer, looked pretty amazing and beautiful. Im not saying nazis are good, of course, and perhaps a better example is North Korea with their beautiful artistic displays. Either way, the dense blurred fabric shown at 440, represents the very fabric of our democratic times, rather than the fascist 432- beautiful as it may be. It could be compared to religion vs. science. People see certain patterns in pictures of frequencies (when put through specific algorithms mind you) and they choose the pretty, simple picture and say eureka! this looks good to my eye, so clearly its some sort of perfect truth!. The fact of the matter is that these patterns are the essence of human perception, which might speak to their general truth, but make them insufficient in a system of empirical judgement (or whatever the proper word is). If that made sense to you, then I say, we dont use 432 as was proper around two thousand years ago, and perhaps not even 448, but the next logical step: A statement of our future-ness, we move on to 456Hz. This may seem like a silly mirroring across the keyboard of 432, but it is in fact 440+16 (which is appropriate due to the logarithmic nature of octaves in an equally tempered scale). 456 would act to both cement our dedication to forwardthinkingness as well as tell those damn hippy microtonalists to get the hell out of our concert halls! maths! 432 440 not 448 because... because in the next octive it will not be a step of equivalent size due to the exponential nature of octives, therefore it should be well... 440 220 110 55 432 216 108 54 8 4 2 1 these ^ are going to be the powers of our sequence we then see that 16 is the next logical step. 456 people! ... i think this was satire... but im gunna try it Note: i know how to spell octave but its not the way i say it - so, i hate writing it that way. Second note: i realize im inconsistently using dashes as parenthetic notation and clause separation, but yall dont even know what that means, so who the hell are you to criticize my writing?
