If you are interested, see the contact at the bottom of this message.] --- Interagency Wilderness Interpretation and Education Workshop Action Planning for the 50th Anniversary and Beyond Albuquerque, New Mexico November 18-21, 2013 How can celebrating the 50th anniversary of wilderness in 2014 connect people to Parks, Forests, Refuges, and National Landscape Conservation Lands? If people don’t go to wilderness, why do they care about it? What role does wilderness play in landscape scale conservation? If you want answers to these questions and to learn how you can you use momentum afforded by the 50th anniversary to advance your unit goals, and address your wilderness issues, then this tuition free workshop is for you! Register now to learn how you can use your skills and that of other participants to develop strategies for interpreting, communicating, and educating internal and external audiences about the values and benefits of America’s wilderness heritage in a changing world. Target Audience and Workshop Objectives: Interpreters, public-affairs staff, communication specialists, wilderness managers, and non-agency partners and stakeholders. Participants will join Carhart Center staff, special guest presenters, and regional leaders from the interpretation, communication, and wilderness community to: 1. Strengthen knowledge about the values and benefits of wilderness in a changing world within and outside participants’ agency. 2. Identify internal and external wilderness interpretation, education, and communication issues within and outside participants’ specialty areas and agencies. 3. Develop action plans that use effective messaging techniques/strategies to address internal and external wilderness interpretation, education, and communication issues using a process that capitalizes on the diverse and collective skill sets participants bring. 4. Position participants to advance their unit objectives by becoming part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the Wilderness Act by developing interagency/local action plans. 5. Inspire, equip, and motivate participants to provide wilderness interpretation, communication, and education to a variety of internal and external audiences that, as an added benefit, will help bring along the next generation of wilderness stewards. This course is geared toward wildernesses in the Southwestern regional area, but most topics are applicable elsewhere and participant applications are not limited by geographical region.
