(not only)for piano lovers... Andrew Hill drew from his idols Art Tatum ,Bud Powell and Monk, but developed his own composing style ,often creating tunes around tonal centers rather than chord progressions.Apart his composing and leading group skills Hill was a fine pianist with unique melodic style . Blue Note records founder Alfred Lion was so impressed with him that for the rest of his life Lion regarded Andrew Hill as his last great discovery...What did Lion hear that made him want to document everything the pianist could offer..? (Lion devoted so much recording time to a new artist only twice -to Thelonious Monk and Herbie Nichols-before signing Hill..)
