\o/\0/\o/ JESUS>me. ~1Kings~ The book of 1 Kings was originally part of a larger book that also included 2 Kings. It recorded Israels history from the last days of King David to the demise of the northern and southern kingdoms. As 1 Kings begins, Israel was still one nation under Solomons rule, and the people were following God. Solomon led the nation to a position of world prominence, and his wisdom became legendary. Kings and queens from foreign lands traveled great distances just to meet him. But like so many of us, the success of Solomon and the nation led the Israelites to self-sufficiency and pride. They turned their backs on the God who had blessed them so richly. This led to strife and a divided kingdom that was ruled by a series of dysfunctional, corrupt kings. The people wandered from God and began to worship idols, ignoring the laws that God had given them. Yet throughout this period of prideful rebellion, God continued to reach out to His people. Godly kings like Asa and prophets like Elijah called the people to turn their lives over to God, and some responded. Elijahs confrontation with Ahab and Jezebel was a dramatic example of how God called disobedient kings to account for their actions. Elijah, though a flawed human being, won many great victories for God through faith. This book is filled with examples of people who trusted God and received His help. It is also filled with accounts of people who disobeyed God and suffered the consequences of their rebellion. But even when the people disobeyed, God never gave up on them. He did everything He could to draw them back into a healthy, vibrant relationship to Himself. Be blessed and mighty fb famO!
