....... okay, yknow how utterly bummed out I was over the last couple weeks, here? Practically inconsolable? Well, dont worry about that, anymore; I cant help but be over all that, now that my heart has been privy to the ultimate sadness... and it only cost $15 for 3 dimensions. WHY, DEITY WHOSE EXISTENCE I QUESTION... WHY?!?!? ... is just what I was ready to say going into this. You all know how near and dear the Adolescent Genetically-Anomalous Martial Art Terrapins are and have been for pretty much my entire life. And, while hopelessly calm and patient to see where they were going with everything (my favored response to the mouth-frothing masses: Calm your tits.), I also certainly remained cautious. It could have gone wrong so very easily. It had every opportunity to. ..... and it really didnt. It wasnt bad. It actually was pretty good. Im absolutely NOT saying it was perfect; the first half hour or so was a bit rocky, I was a bit disappointed with the how Master Splinter learned Ninjutsu aspect of the origin flashback, and Michelangelos face in particular still kinda irks me (not to mention Donnys glasses bejng a bit of overkill... the goggles wouldve sufficed on their own.....)... but it held up. Once it picked up, it rolled nicely. Seeing the Turtles bodies in full and in relation to their environment and other people, I warmed up to them (still maybe a LITTLE bulky for my tastes, but effective, I suppose). And I could feel at least some of the familial love between the brothers and their father. And hell, despite the kinda goofy face on the helmet, the Shredder was badass. Raph even managed a little speech near the end that, while it felt a bit forced, still managed to redden my eyes for a bit. And I still hold that Will Arnett as Vernon was perfect casting. So overall, I liked it. Dont get me wrong, it still doesnt hold a candle to the 89 movie - my all-time favorite movie of anything of all time - but it didnt suck, either. Ive seen each and every TMNT movie the day its come out (a week and a half EARLY, in the case of the 1st one, thanks to winning a contest), and this made upholding that tradition worth it. Just sad I couldnt share it with my oldest Turtle brother, Andy Kochanski. But yeah, guys, check it out!
