Heres the link to contribute at GoFundMe gofundme/hpacds In Gentries words: For those who want in the loop, heres the deal: Unbeknownst to us the McMahons set up this gofundme account BEFORE we even knew them. How sweet is that!? We met them through the Sears, who we met in the waiting room of a urologist in Nov. (We were there because Matthew just got out of the hospital where he was admitted by ambulance. They want to remove his bladder. Its not reversible and there are no guarantees.) We did not ask for any help whatsoever. They just saw a need and were moved to do something. After the weight of the modifications on the truck have cost us two transmissions in 3 years, the electronic gas and brake failing 4 times while driving, the under vehicle lift failing (leaving him stuck in or out of the truck for hours, catching on fire, wearing AAA out, 5ft 1.5 inches me lifting Matt in and out of my SUV, me having to rescue him broke down on sides of roads (aka lift him out of his 350lb chair, over his console in his truck to his passenger seat and carry him to my SUV), for the past two years Matt has worked with a government program to get the funding to modify a new vehicle. They have changed their requirements so that your vehicle must be 7+ yrs old and have 150k+ miles on it. Though were still hoping this will come through, I dont know how much longer he can wait since hes already waited nearly THREE years. To give you an idea of how expensive these modifications are, the mods to the truck in 2006 were $56k plus the cost of the truck. So, if you feel moved to do so, by all means:) Since is also about to be mega medical bills (just spent 6 days in hospital and went by ambulance. Now he must have at least 2 life changing/saving surgeries (one of which may not be covered at all), and since local specialists who are familiar with spinal cord injury (SCI) dont accept his insurance anymore...seek care by medical professionals in another state who actually have SCI experience which wont be covered at all) so this is very much needed. The annual cost of care for a quad his level is $109k a year. I also just got my degree in the midst of all of this and my research is regarding caregiver/spousal interaction with their paralyzed spouse. Giving them actionable tools to help improve their communication and resources for peer support. Matthew also is a peer counselor to newly injured people.
