[recordate] On Nov. 22, 1968, The Beatles released their self-titled two-LP set, which would soon be known as ‘The White Album. All the experiences that happened in India was all embodied in that album. Most of those songs were written in Rishikesh like Julia and Blackbird and Dear Prudence. - George Harrison Julia was my mother. But it was sort of a combination of Yoko Ono and my mother blended into one. That was written in India. On the White Album. And all the stuff on the White Album was written in India while we were supposedly giving money to Maharishi, which we never did. We got our mantra, we sat in the mountains eating lousy vegetarian food and writing all those songs. We wrote tons of songs in India. - John Lennon On November 8, 2006, Carla Hassett released her second abum, Quero Saber, in which her longtime friend Mike Patton joins her on vocals for her bi-lingual version of Julia, written by John Lennon for the Beatles White Album. It’s a John Lennon song from The White Album. Julia was Lennon’s mother who was estranged to him during most of his childhood and died when he was still young. The song has such a longing vibe and my own songs usually come from that same place, so it’s no wonder that I was drawn to it. The track bed features northeastern Brazilian rhythms mixed with loops and Scott Anderson’s guitar arrangement. Chicago keyboardist Ben Lewis threw down the sparse, almost off-key piano and Carmine Rojas (who has played with everyone from Patti LaBelle to David Bowie (Official) ; currently on tour with Joe Bonamassa) layed down the bass. Patton and I sing the original Lennon lyrics plus additional lyrics in Portuguese that I translated. - Carla Hassett, 2011 Source: bit.ly/1zWBS1U youtu.be/OAi07gbYdxs
