(repost from my personal timeline) Today is a very significant 30th anniversary for me. On the 13th December 1984 around 7.30pm, I saw Cardiacs for the first time. This band absolutely and irrevocably changed my life and my musical outlook, and I have met an amazing and wildly diverse bunch of extremely cool people through going to see them. I became friends with the band. I had my 21st birthday at one of their shows, and they made me a birthday card and gave me a cassette of the show straight from the mixing desk. They have seen me through some incredible highs and helped me through some gutwrenching lows. I worked for them a few times as guitar technician and standby driver for Bob and Jon Poole. I met the amazing Clare Kelly at Bob Leiths wedding. I dislocated 2 kneecaps and my jaw, broke a finger and some ribs at various occasions dancing to them in the wild mess we called The Pond (and still thank Graeme Martin and Little Pete for helping me pop my knee back in and feeding me brandy at Leeds) I saw them well over 100 times and drove thousands of miles up and down the UK with people like Michael Chapman Peter Jelley Lucy Dawson Andrew Duffy Marina Organ, the legend that is Adrian Thomas Bell and countless others. My bestest auntie Carli Dogstand is one of us and it was her that put me onto my brother from another mother Jimmy Martin as a drummer, without whom I could never have got Kremated going. Tim had his accident in 2008 and that was the end of live Cardiacs performances, but there were regular fundraiser events held to honour and support the man, one of which I organised. They are not everyones cup of tea by a long shot, but his band means more to me than any other band past or present. I could tag well over a hundred people here and rattle on for days, but Ill just leave it with this. Mister Tim Smith, thanks for everything, you bastard
