The Dutch settlers were the ones who brought this lovely tradition to the United States of America. Since then Americans imagine Santa Clause having a great big belly with red and white clothes riding glorious flying reindeer and giving shiny presents to kids. American Christmas`s habit is filling socks or stockings with presents on the night of December 24th. French Santa Claus Pere Noel Pere Noel or Papa Noel is a French Christmas character who is bringing gifts for well-behaved kids on St. Ncholas Day. His image is long white beard, bushy white eyebrows, wearing a red suit carrying a sack filled with toys. In France Santa Claus (Pere Noel) climbs down through the chimney and leaves the presents for good children. Russian Santa Clause Father the Frost Ded Moroz or Father Frost is the Slavic version of Santa Claus. However Father the frost brings presents in New Years eve along with his granddaughter Snegurochka. Usually he wears Russian-style ankle-length coat, typically trimmed with white fur and embroidered with fine silvery patterns.
