...seven, seven, seven rhetoric. A line in the sevenmysteries about page written a few weeks ago. The Number Seven The mysteries or mystery of the Bible is veiled by parables. Like the biblical, spiritual or parabolic meaning of the number seven. Ironically, in the language of parables Seven Mysteries literally means The Whole Truth. Perhaps, you have heard that seven in the Bible means completion. Seven is often used in the Bible as a way of saying complete or whole. For instance, it would boggle my brain trying to figure out what John meant by the seven Spirits who are before His throne, (Revelation 1:4). I later learned it could be just another way of saying the Holy Spirit. The seven Spirits are not seven spirits but One complete Spirit, the Holy Spirit and yet, a great cloud of witnesses. Like a rain cloud if you will...one cloud and yet, made up of countless individual water molecules. Consider the following passages in context with the seven Spirits who are before his throne... For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. I Corinthians 12:12. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. Ephesians 4:4-6 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Romans 8:14 So, you see an innumerable number of sons of God but one Spirit..not seven spirits but One. God is teaching us that the number seven refers to spirit and what spirit really is. I wonder how often we ponder and truly comprehend, God is spirit. Well, seven in the Bible often refers to an indefinite but complete number making up one whole and so seven is often the number thought of as surrounding and or representing God Himself. Like in Bruce Almighty when, Bruce comically mocks God with some seven, seven, seven rhetoric. Dont over think it but when, one begins to uncover the spiritual meaning of the number seven they begin to see many Bible mysteries in the proper light, e.g., one baptism and what baptism really is; Us becoming One in Christ. God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, how He can be One but many members, He in us, us in Him, how He operates and how we can become one of His sons made into the full stature of Jesus is all a mystery and a very cool one at that. It is amazing how easy it is to understand the mysteries of the Bible when we begin to learn the language of parables. Mystery: Although, the Bibles message is literal, the Bible is packed with symbolism. Some synonyms for symbolism include, mystery, riddles or parables. The Bible as a whole really is like one big mystery packed with smaller ones. The Bible is full of these mini mysteries containing riddles referred to as parables. For this seven mysteries theme, consider, All these things Jesus spoke to the multitude in parables; and without a parable He did not speak to them... Matthew 13:34 In one sense, everything God says is a parable...parable is mystery and mystery is parable. From the very beginning of the Bibles message, the Truth is depicted as a Tree of Life producing the fruit of everyone of its mysteries. In order to understand this mystery of mysteries, the Bible, we must engage in a relationship with Him and His Word. We must come to know the Word and the Word (one of the mysteries we will learn).
