#teamKAKAAKI: REMINDER ON COM. ENIOLA OPEYEMI’S AMBITION AS NANS NATIONAL PRO - Comrade Fafunwa Olakunle, University of Lagos. “There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but he must take it because conscience tells him it is right”. - Martin Luther King Jr, A Testament of Hope: The Essential Writings and Speeches. Eniola Opeyemi (aka Daddie] is a student leader cum activist who has been involved in the emancipation of students from the shackles of the oppressor in the form of sensitization programs, peaceful protests, as well as enlightenment campaigns in whatever position has served. He has held numerous posts in time past some of which: • Coordinator, NANS, Zone D (South-West) 2010-2012 • Secretary, NANS, Zone D (South-West) 2008-2010 • President, NASS, AOCOED, Lagos state 2008-2009 As a versatile dude, whose wealth of experience in activism nay student unionism for some years, his record speaks volume. He has numerous awards as well as appointments to his credit. His appointment as member, constitution review committee of NANS by the Late NANS Senate President (Comrade Donald) is an attestation of his leadership virtues. It is also to be noted that Eniola’s views, vibrancy, articulacy, constructive criticism, insight, as well as objective analysis of issues of National interest have endeared him to many. Eniola Opeyemi’s ambition for the post of PRO at the National level of NANS is borne out of the penchant to serve as always and as a consensus reached by cadres of NANS after he had served diligently at the South- West geopolitical Zone with vibrancy and articulacy, embarking on various assignment across NANS Zone D. It is also on record that Comrade Eniola Opeyemi happens to be the first student from the college of Education ( during his NCE days), to attain the post of coordinator of NANS, thereby debunking the assumption that nothing “good” can come from college of Education. This by itself is no mean feat. Let me quickly add at this juncture that Comrade Eniola Opeyemi is not your run of the mill student activist. He is a troubling oxymoron; a thinking activist. With his boundless enthusiasm and incredible reserve and reservoir of energy, Eniola is very handy with useful facts, figures, and statistics on a wide spectrum of issues. His mastery of details on developmental arcana is just a tad short of the extraordinary and fortunately, for him, his antecedents as a vibrant, thinking and charismatic leader have helped him. In addition to the aforementioned, it has been a difficult task in recent times to lead Nigeria’s over forty million students both at home in diaspora towards having one voice for change due to lack of trust in the student- leaders. You will agree with me that the achievements highlighted above couldn’t have been possible without the person being familiar with the challenges faced by students on campus. The need to create a positive image for NANS especially at the Centre cannot be underrated, so that NANS can be taken to the next level positively. Finally, I implore all to forget parochial interest(s) and sentiments and let us chart a good course for students’ unionism in Nigeria. It is expedient I sum up with this quote: “Reformers who are always compromising, have not, yet grasped the idea that truth is the only safe ground to stand upon.” - Elizabeth Cady Stanton Thank you. Viva Aluta, Viva Victoria! Pray, support and Vote Com. Eniola Opeyemi aka Daddie as NANS PRO National. 282D8390 08036858265 eniolaopeyemi@gmail #teamKAKAAKI…beyond aspiration.
