...that brings me to Ekiti. What most Nigerians fail to - TopicsExpress

...that brings me to Ekiti. What most Nigerians fail to understand is that what goes on in Ekiti is more of vengeance than politics or law. I actually wonder if Fayose could have done otherwise and not face the wrath of Ekiti people who are eager to take their pound of flesh. All the lucid argument against the govs action can only make sense on FB. To the man on the streets of Ekiti, fayose is a hero playing out a script well crafted by the people. Some reasons: when Fayemi took over power, the first thing his people did was to physically chase out LG executive. They went from LG to LG with guns, cudgels and cutlasses chasing out officials. In the process one chief Awolumate was shot dead. Then, that was normal. The people cried and wept, there came no help. Then they had no right (s). The stories sent by media correspondence to their lagos head office ended up in Asejire river in Ibadan. It was black out. The people went to court, the court ordered reinstatement, the govt refused. Yet no help. Every activist was mute thumbing up their man. When this same lawmakers were making spurious laws to aide the abberations of Fayemis govt, the people cried again, but they were shouted down. Now the same law is taunting them. When eventually the ekiti people realised their helplessness, they resulted into voting the govt out. That was one of the reason why the resolve to oust fayemi was unanimous. No dissenting voice. Now, inspite the obvious illegality going on in Ekiti now, whereby 7/10 legislatures are playing god, the question on every lips of ekiti man on ekiti streets (not lagos ekiti man or Facebook ekitiman) is; where was law when we were harrassed for four years! Where were the Tunji Abayomi, Femi Falana, Keyamo, Odumakin etc when we were being hounded like rats or smoked like rabbits in our homes. 9 politically motivated murders were committed in the last dispensation alone, yet no attention was given to any. Meanwhile, we chased Fayose away because two ppl were kiiled during his first reign in office. I still remember how the law maker in my constituency used to go about with heavy police escourts blasting siren than president Jonathan ever had. Then we were amazed and disillusioned because, if we talk, we would be in trouble. Until we view issues dispartionately, without fear or favour we will continue to experience this. May the soul of Gani Fawehinmi, erudite scholar, dinstinguished lawyer, inpartial activist continue to rest in peace. He said it the way it was, no fear nor favour. When shall we have another? -Bayo Ogunyemi.
