(this is a constant reminder of how serious God is about his people and those He has entrusted them with) The Lord Speaks (rebuke of false leaders) For the shepherds are stupid and do not inquire of the LORD; therefore they have not prospered, and all their flock is scattered. Many shepherds have destroyed my vineyard; they have trampled down my portion; they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness. They have made it a desolation; desolate, it mourns to me. The whole land is made desolate, but no man lays it to heart. Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! declares the LORD. Therefore thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, concerning the shepherds who care for my people: You have scattered my flock and have driven them away, and you have not attended to them. Behold, I will attend to you for your evil deeds, declares the LORD. My people have been lost sheep. Their shepherds have led them astray, turning them away on the mountains. From mountain to hill they have gone. They have forgotten their fold. Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel, who are prophesying, and say to those who prophesy from their own hearts: Hear the word of the LORD! Thus says the Lord GOD, Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing! Son of Man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel; prophesy, and say to them, even to the shepherds, Thus says the Lord GOD: Ah, shepherds of Israel who have been feeding yourselves! Should not shepherds feed the sheep? You eat the fat, you clothe yourselves with the wool, you slaughter the fat ones, but you do not feed the sheep. Woe to my worthless shepherd, who deserts the flock! For thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I, I, myself will search for my sheep and will seek them out. Now may The God of peace who brought again from the dead, Our Lord Jesus, The Great Shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good, that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. Jer 10:21; 12:10,11; 23:1,2; 50:6; Ez 13:2,3; 34:2,3; Zech 11:17a; Ez 34:11; Heb 13:20,21.
