#traveldiary San Francisco VS New York Its been 10 days now that were touring, traveling, and living the US experience. New York felt big. Not particular beautiful, but still impressive. Its funny to be here again after 10 years. All I remembered from the last time was the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty and a blues club we went to. By that time I hadnt started making music yet. But I remember it as one of most inspiring moments that encouraged me to start with making music. If I would live in NY it would definitely be in Williamsburg. Only watching the people that are living in that place is entertaining enough. In this city things happen like, you go to an open mic and you end up playing with James Browns bass player and another one that had worked with Jimi Hendrix. The next day we went to a session where Lady Gaga used to come every month before she got famous and I ended up jamming with guys that played with Sting, Gevin de Graw, and Christina Aguilera. Great musicians! Had fun on stage!! But here comes one WEIRED thing about this New York thing. The moment I started to dislike the NY mentality. It went like this: hey girl what do you wanna play I said I wanna improvise and make a song up right on stage He said But how is the band going to follow you then? I said well, play something funky and we gonna go with the flow and I gonna sing to the music youre playing He said THIS IS NEW YORK BABY, you gotta know the chords and the lyrics! I said where I come from we let the music come alive right on stage, it can be lots of fun writing music right on the spot. Dont you wanna try it out? He THIS IS NEW YORK BABY! ....hmmmm hmmm ok lets try it The band started to jam, and how could it be different, it felt like someone had opened there cage and musicians where finally free! The crowd went wild and it was fun! After that song the band leader came on stage again WOUW THAT WAS GREAT! wanna do one more song? Me SURE He Ok we gonna play Superstitious and you can improvise on that ...........................Come oooooon NEW YORK! whats wrong????????!! (see video) The moment we arrived in San Francisco we experienced a total different vibe. People where not busy with trying to survive in society (like new yorkers are), but living the moment without caring about rules. Hippies are making parks there homes, and finally cute little streets with little cafes and shops. Something I prefer above high skyscrapers. The only sad thing about this place: people say the music scene is dead in here. Where hippie started the music culture years ago, software engineers develop the latest ideas in technologie. The music venues we went to where half empty, sort of felt like being back in holland :) This was my detailed travel diary part 1. I wander if any of you have similar experiences or totally disagree with me. So please dont hesitate to comment.
