It could be sports stars, actors/actress or singers, who perform in the advertisement. More and more companies are using celebrities in their marketing because they are aware of the fact that celebrities can have a positive influence on audiences. They persuade people to buy the products, which they advertise. The audiences feel that they know their private life pretty good through the press. They feel that they know what kind of personality their idols have, but indeed they don’t know anything about them or maybe they just know a little bit about them. Everybody knows the popular footballer David Beckham. He is world-famous, he is more than an icon, and he is a brand, which is why many companies want him to endorse their product. Companies such as Vodafone and Adidas use Beckham in their marketing, and the sales of their products have increased much. The Adidas football boot he wears is the world’s no. 1 seller. Since Vodafone used Beckham in their marketing, they have increased their global sales by one third. People look up to him and want to emulate him. Beckham is just not a good footballer, he is also good looking. He’s famous for his fashionable clothes and hairstyle, the way he wears it and his changing hairstyle get a good press, and he always dictates must-dos or must-haves. Companies are using celebrities in their advertising because they are well known and the consumers believe the brand through their credibility. The consumers believe what their favourite celebrities say in the advertisements because of their popularity and successful careers, and they will therefore become infatuated with their favourite celebrities. They think that they will become as their idol when they use the product endorsed by the celebrity. Today the celebrities play an important role in consumer’s consumption. It is celebrities, who decide the lifestyle and fashion. Some people, who admire celebrities, they are trying to emulate them by purchasing and using the brand, which the celebrities endorse. Companies can also experience disadvantages by using celebrities in their marketing. First of all it’s expensive for a company to hire celebrities, and that will bring down the company profit. The companies can hire someone cheaper to do advertising, but it may not carry the same persuasive massage as celebrities. Young consumers often look upon celebrities as their role models, and their behaviours have also influence consumers. If the celebrities suddenly into a scandal, then it rubs of on the brand, which they do advertising for.
