...when you dream...n believe.. ---------------------------------------- The guy sitting next to me wore almost boyish excitement as the plane readied to take off. He nudged me n asked to look out side when the plane would take off , look at wings, how speed would create magic out of the raindrops falling over it. He seemed to know a lot about the planes n quite familiar with the terminology. He opened the inflight magazine n showed me the pic of a pilot n asked me to read his bio. It was an interesting n inspiring story of a man who who got Commercial Pilot License n then due to lack of jobs moved to America. He didnt really get to fly the planes there but instead drove trucks around the length n breadth of the country. He even drove taxi for a while n then moved to become Railway Engine Driver. He drove everything he could for years...except realizing his first dream of flying a plane. And then eventually came boom in the aviation industry in India and he was back in the country in no time to try his luck again. This time destiny favored, he passed his tests and eventually started flying planes. I asked the guy what he did for a living. He told me he had done everything except living his first dream of flying a plane...but now he had finally got a job with an airline n was going to start flying within six months. Apparently he had gotten his license years back but there were hardly any jobs for pilots...so after trying his luck here n there, he took up a job in a call center. I told him he was a good looking guy n probably could have become an actor. I dont want to be an actor, I want to be in the skies flying my own machine, he grinned. Two hours to Delhi...n he had only been talking about planes n skies. Time actually flew. As we were to land he asked me what I did, and if I was following my passion. I just smiled. I told him when I was not being philosophical in life...I shot pictures for a living. As we collected our bags at the airport, he walked up to me n asked if he could know my name. I gave him my card n told him that anytime he wanted I will shoot him a picture in uniform as a gift from me...for not letting go of his dreams ! He laughed n said, Sir, i want you to remember my name....may be some day when you are in flight, they would announce my name as your pilot...n then you can tell someone that I know this guy...he worked hard n waited long to be in the skies. My name is Ajay Malhotra. I smiled back. I wasnt going to forget that name. I liked dreamers...n believers. excerpts from my diary - pravin talan
