#wordfeastchallenge Day 19. Results for yesterdays challenge: Team Jerrida wrote Story 1 Parting shot - 4 votes. Team KennIfe wrote Story 2 Fantasy - 29 votes Beautiful minds of Zuckerville, this challenge is near its end. Theres one more day left, and like we promised, it will be a Christmas special. This will come up on the 26th of December (boxing day). There will be no challenge tomorrow, and on the 25th. We appreciate your support so far; your votes, comments and commitment. We wish you the best of the season. Voting ends 9am Nigerian time tomorrow. Please include a reason for your vote in the comments. Theme for today is POLITICS. STORY 1: BIGAMY ‘Four pelican feathers!’ the herbalist repeats, looking us over as if anticipating some form of defiance. We nod. We will relay his message to the man in charge, The Prince. OUR MAN FOR THE JOB! This has been our mantra ever since he began giving us the wads of Naira he calls ‘peanuts.’ ‘Manage these, boys’, he would say. ‘When we win, it would be a daily feast for you.’ We would nod and bow simultaneously, as our sign of loyalty. Timothy, my partner in crime, once told me that he could lick The Prince’s shoes if he had to. ‘So long pepper is flowing’, he said with smugness. For me, it’s a little different. The entire situation is heavy on my conscience for reasons that aren’t far-fetched. First is the fact that I am a journalist, sworn to the truth. I tell myself nobody regards integrity anymore, but even this isn’t comforting. Last month, my Pastor warned me of an impending misfortune. He said I must not collect certain gifts. I have collected over a dozen, and now I have this feeling my doom is looming. Added to these is my support for two opposing candidates. I was supporting Atutuh, until Timothy told me about the The Prince’s extravagance, and I was enticed. I do not have enough guts to jilt Atutuh because I hear he is dangerous, so I have successfully played both sides, writing anonymously, or promising to write in their favor. As we leave The Prince’s personal herbalist with a list of peculiar requirements for his victory ritual, a red Camry parked outside suddenly opens, guns go off, and we find ourselves in a pool of our blood. As I breathe my last, I sight a familiar face in the haze. He is Atutuh’s hitman. STORY 2: THE UN-HATCHED Yasin glanced across the room to where the clock hung loosely on the wall. It was about 8.54 pm. Anticipation mixed with tension and filled his heart, it was only a day to the elections. The prospect of winning beckoned as he seemed to be the peoples choice. The door swung open, it was Kadir his campaign leader. He gave him a stern look as if expecting bad news. How did it go? Very well! Everything will turn out for your favor. The others stand no chance. An excited Kadir announced The people loved the souvenirs, women rushed for the wrappers and buckets. he continued I heard Mukhtar only shared pots Yasin asked with a mocking concern. Yes your excellency and I heard the people rejected it Kadir replied gleefully. Yasins followers were already calling him excellency. They were that sure he would win in the polls. Yasins heart illuminated and it reflected on the big smile on his face. Finally after weeks and months of politicking, his plans were coming together. He would become Governor. We should move from here now, theres more work to do he said delightfully, turning to Kadir. The polls did not hold the next day as there was insurgency in certain parts of the state and a curfew had to be imposed. The elections held weeks later, and the results stunned many. Yasin went to bed a sad man, and the planned celebration at his mansion was scrapped. He ended up with the least number of votes. The people apparently did not like the quality of the wrappers.
