#worried_indian I do not want to confront anyone here neither do I support the abuses thrown at Sharapova over the issue, but yes she was present at the venue when Sachin received distinct applause and his accolades were being presented on the giant screen right inside the Centre Court, Wimbledon. I would like to share a piece of information on Sharapova that is being convincingly ignored by many. Sharapova did not have a clue about one of the more significant Tennis players, namely, Judy Murray. This incident occurred at French Open and the funny part is (!), even the British Media slammed her ignorance; and slammed it pretty hard. Quite simply because, Judy Murray belongs to the same sport and was an active coach at the time. Judy Murray is followed by more than 100000 members on Twitter if that could be regarded as a yardstick for ones fame. So while people may make hues and cries over Indians so called immaturity, you have to consider that such backlashes against a high-profile athlete like Maria Sharapova are very obvious. Yes it is unacceptably odd that Sharapova did not recognize Sachin Tendulkar for the following reasons: 1. Sachin is a regular at Wimbledon and gains extremely distinct media attention whenever he enters the arena. 2. Most of the tennis players and players representing other sports (even in case cricket is not played in their respective countries) are quite familiar with him, especially Roger Federer. 3. Wimbledon tournament takes place in the heart of London and I have personally experienced the kind of knowledge-sharing with regards to the game of Cricket that constantly floats around in the country. The game of Cricket is quite prominently in the NEWS with extensive critique and elaborate headlines being in trend almost everyday. People of England DO respect and talk about Tendulkar to the core!! Yes it is quite the case. What is the probability that Maria Sharapova did not hear that name even once given the fact that she has spent substantial span of her career at Wimbledon? In my book, zero probability, BUT if someone is well oblivious to the outside world which Maria apparently is, the probability shoots manifold. Now, let me share another piece of information which many people are unaware about, Canon had signed a contract with Maria Sharapova as their brand ambassador and the organization was quite keen on bringing the two sporting giants, herself and Sachin together for a photoshoot and there were extensive discussions on the proposal. Eventually Canon announced that they have no immediate plans of bringing the two together. NOW! What is the probability that Maria never heard that name? I am afraid to say, zero. Please feel free to verify these claims wherein I personally assure you that it is all true. Hands-down, it is an insult to Sachin Tendulkar that she refused to recognize his name. But was the furor over the issue justified, quite simply not. Yet I have to re-emphasize that such furor is quite common and should not necessarily be antagonized, because most of the Indian Hindus do believe in the story that Lord Shiva beheaded his own son and replaced the same by beheading an elephant! And people do worship Lord Shiva despite such obscurity. Disclaimer: Sachin Tendulkar should not be treated as God precisely because the actual Gods should not be treated as deities in the first place. Disclaimer: This comment is a simple attempt at proposing the other side of the story and by no means should be taken personally, neither is it the case that any form of objectionable language has been used.
