...wow, isnt it a challenge living in Ghana.... Apart from the rampant and now predictably daily regularity of dumsor, there is competition for dumsor from service providers, even data, now you see me now you dont. ....then there is ubiquitous traffic and its attendant indiscipline, where drivers with asinine and porcine intelligence aka stupid, try to squeeze into any and every bare square millimetre of space both on and off the road to get ahead to go nowhere..... .....then there are the radio stations, newspaper and websites all trying to outdo each other in sensationalism and bringing down folks if not praising them with reckless abandon, raucously filling every space available in the day. I wonder why a good many of them dont publish in the vernacular or local languages because very often i get very confused and one cannot tell whether there is an effort there to publish in pidgin or there is a real challenge with the grammar. Or maybe there is just a lot lost in translation between thought and presentation, like from Ga to written english or Twi to written english, never mind the speaking .....just maybe. ....then there are conversations in every corner, from churches to drinking spots to public spaces about how bad things have become and are, and how everyone is fed up with everything and nothing. And then of course there is the new boxing ring, Facebook where many a wise and or foolish man and woman, expose and fight for bragging rights for their obvious wisdom, intellect or lack thereof. Its no shock or wonder we are where we are, especially when you read posts where significant effort has been applied to stupidity to beg for attention, with the most unbelievably (intellectually) vacuous arguments on anything from A to Z with the prominent P taking the biscuit. And many of us string along with rapt attention..........smh!!! I also truly wonder how some are making ends meet in this volatile and waterslide economy, so much so..... meeting expenses with income(s) is now like a game of Snakes and Ladders, where everyone is trying to eke out or mint an extra cedi from impossible crevices...ergo kpa kpa kpa.......a source of desperate mirth to reinforce the mentality of entitlement. And perhaps to douse our desolation, we have cleverly built psychological barriers by making a joke out of everything and anything.....and even using it to exemplify our supposed great hospitality....a clever mechanism of offering a goofy smile or smirk to earn favor or a dime....usually reserved for unsuspecting oyibos...... otherwise we take to false faith and and fungible and saleable grace....hmm Man dey suffer oooooh. A very seasoned old friend of mine has described Ghana as a Conocracy, where everybody is conning everybody in concentric circles....and he meant everybody. No one believes anyone anymore.........As Kenichi Ohmae (the Japanese management dude) once said, ....rowing harder doesnt help if your boat is headed in the wrong direction. A glimmer of hope lies in ancient wisdom, perhaps borrowed from the thousands of years of Chinese civilization.....If we dont change our direction, we will end up where we are heading. A matter of choice...or?
