(xiv) Why fall in ionization energy occur at Al and S in the same period? Ans; Ionization energy depends on the electronic configuration of the atoms. Half-filled shells and sub shells are more stable than partially filled shell and sub shells. Or . The electronic configuration of group 2A is ns2 while that of group 3A(Al) is 3s2,P1. Therefore it is easy to remove electron from Al (P1)than from Mg(2S2).similarly the electronic configuration of Group 5A is ns2, nP3(half filled or more stable) and that of Sulphur is ns2 , np4, partially filled. The electron removing from N is difficult than from S. therefore I.E of Al and S is lesser than Mg and P respectively.
