. . . you know relentless status seeking sometimes has unexpected costs and unintended consequences. A pecking order was a method of keeping a social order, but peckers sometimes find they had victimized (oops) themselves in the long run. Some parents will go to great lengths to deny their children the benevolence of love, attention, guidance and (yes, even) discipline, and yet many survive their youthful folly (whatever doesnt kill you makes you stronger) . . .
