☆ ╚►★ ▲► °˚◦ღ ● => Ivory base for a royal statuette. XVIII Dynasty, reign of Akhenaten. Povenance unknown, most probably from Amarna. In the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. This piece consists in two elements : a squared base, and a rectangular projection with a rounded end on top. A statuette of the king (now lost), represented standing or kneeling, most probably carved in a precious material (given the reduced dimensions of the base), was placed on the upper face of the base, with his back against the rear projection acting as a back pillar. Sides of the base are decorated with incised figures of foreigners with raised arms in adoration. Before each figure there is a tray on a stand, laden with undetermined offerings ; perhaps meaning tribute to the king from foreign lands. The back pillar (see photo below) is decorated with a depiction of the Aten extending its rays terminating in human hands, above the cartouches with the names of the king : Neferkheperure-waenre ; Akhenaten . Under the kings names is a depiction of the sema-tawy , the symbolic union of the Two Lands. >>>>>>>>> decoration on the back pillar with names of Akhenaten
