[전략 이야기] Thoughts on Leadership to execute strategy - Communications with staff is critical. Everyone should be able to explain what the strategy means to me on daily basis - Symbolic action from the top is real implementation driver of the strategy. Leading by example, leading by actions is the only way to penetrate strategy into daily life of frontline who are real delivery of the strategy - Acquisition and divestiture are critical element of strategy execution. What is missing for strategy should be filled in and what is off strategy should be sold. - We can buy cheap when we do not have to buy. Crisis provides ample opportunity to buy cheap which can be day 1 income generator. - What needs to be done can be communicated by broadcasting. How to do that should be shown by leader’s example. Why we need to do should be communicated through physical contact with staff and this is most important element of communications to engage frontline to strategy execution. - Great performance cannot happen without good leaders. However, even the best leaders cannot make magical performance improvements as performance is dependent variables of legacy, history, environment, industry cycle, competition, capability, etc. Bad leaders can make organization melt down in a short period of time. - Commitment and stability of leadership is critical to bring everyone in the organization devoted to. Making a high performance organization is a result of accumulation of subtle goodness. Making a low performance and dismantled organization can be a result of one senior bad leader, even in a short period of time. - Lucky people win: positivity wins - Select the battle you can win, while the winning the war does not mean winning every battle. Let some battle you lose. - Mentorship is critical: around you, outside of organization, you need to get constant feeding of world reality - Noble purpose guides you through difficult times - Biggest voice is active act of real listening - Don’t try to be the smartest person in the meeting. Try to be the most helpful person in the meeting. - Be humble, but be confident. You are bigger than who you think you are, if you treat yourself with respect. You are miserable if you think you are important. - Leaders cannot make long face. Leaders cannot be angry. They can act angry. - Under severe pressure of performance, delegation and giving real empowerment and trust to the people might be more effective than micro managing and tight control approach as we need initiative taking and ownership more than ever. - Organization with leaders who have followership ultimately wins organization with leaders of commanders.
