➡️ A YOUNG Bahraini, who suffered extensive head injuries in a Sehla building collapse earlier this month, has regained consciousness. Ahmed Makki Ebrahim Al Qaseer, 25, was trapped under the rubble on December 13 after a supporting beam in a ceiling gave way due to construction work. The subsequent collapse led to the death of Ahmeds friend 18-year-old Al Abdulla Sultan, who suffocated before he could be rescued, after nearly three hours under the rubble. Ahmeds uncle Khaleel Ebrahim Al Qaseer told the GDN that his nephew had successfully undergone head surgery at Salmaniya Medical Complex, but had to be physically restrained due to a suspected adverse reaction to medication. He is panicking and is not reacting well to the medication, he said. His hands and legs are now tied to the bed as he is moving a lot because he is in pain. He is unable to speak to us, but he is opening his eyes sometimes and looks around. Doctors told us that it will take time for him to recover - probably another month or two. The uncle said that Ahmed knew little about what happened in the accident as speaking about it would remind him of his deceased close friend. We want him to relax and get well soon, and if he asks, then we can tell about the friend, Mr Al Qaseer added. The GDN previously reported that the roof collapsed at around 9.30am after a supporting beam in the ceiling of an upper floor gave way. Those standing on the ground floor were trapped under debris that crashed down on top of them. A Toyota Corolla was destroyed when the ceiling collapsed, while three other vehicles and a forklift parked inside the property were also damaged. Police and Civil Defence teams dug through the rubble for survivors with the help of dozens of neighbours.
