01/09/15 Update Exhaustion doesnt begin to describe the state of our volunteers. We left the Crisis Prevention Center at 6:15am and returned at 9am. By 9:30am it was filled with volunteers, heating experts, contractors, locksmiths, members of the media and of course families in need. The estimates we were given on repairs are ~$25,000. Since this is a large job it looks as though the repairs/replacements will not be completed for another couple of weeks. Currently about 40% of the building has adequately functioning heat. With the temperatures as low as they are we have concerns that additional pipes may freeze and burst. Still, we are staying positive and remaining strong. Several of you have asked what we need and right now our priority is raising money to cover the cost of repairs and replacement of the faulty heating unit. Donations may be made online at tomvo.org or mailed to: Things of My Very Own, Inc. 249 Green Street Schenectady, NY 12305 Needed Items: Additional talking carbon monoxide/smoke detectors, Contractors bags Drop ceiling tiles Joint compound Lowes/Home Depot gift cards Whether or not we will need to replace carpeting has not yet been determined but we will need drywall at some point soon. We are still serving clients and are either out of or running low on juice boxes diapers (size preemie, 4, 5 and 6) infant formula towels pillows easy to cook meals Please consider making a tax deductible donation today.
