01-09-2014 NARENDRA MODI - DAY 98 IN OFFICE ● The Union Home Ministry has denied that Home Minister Rajnath Singh will discuss and meet his Pakistan counterpart Nisar Ali Khan on the sidelines of the SAARC conference to be held in Nepal this month. The Home Minister’s office has tweeted that terror and talks could not go hand in hand with Pakistan. It said no dialogue is possible with Pakistan till it stops terrorism and violence. ● During Prime Minster’s Japan visit, the two countries have agreed to strengthen strategic ties, and agreed to speed up talks on nuclear energy cooperation.The two prime ministers Shinzo Abe and Narendra Modi agreed to pursue comprehensive security and defence cooperation, including maritime security. ● Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced to set up a special management team under PMO which will facilitate business from Japan. He invited the Japanese business leaders to join the efforts by India for its development. While addressing industry captains from Japan and India, Modi apprised them about the latest decisions to liberalise the policies of the FDI in defence, insurance and railways. He also underlined the requirement of deeper and closer cooperation between both the nations to champion the cause of development instead of expansion. ● During his Japan visit, PM Modi visited an elementary school where he narrated the story ofLord Krishna to the elementary kids. Modi wanted to learn how the education system in Japan works. He also attended a music class where some students were playing flute. He told the children that the flute has the potential to attract animals and subsequently recited them the story of Lord Krishna who used to play flute and attract cows towards him. He also played the flute with the children. ● Two of the allies of the BJP have opposed the Central government’s decision to change the name of ‘Teacher’s Day’ as ‘Guru Utsav’. BJP allies PMK and MDMK have demanded that the Centre should immediately withdraw their order to rename Teachers’ Day as ‘Guru Utsav’. ● Law Minister Ravi Shankar Parshad and Home Minister Rajnath Singh will meet to discuss about the MPs who are facing criminal charges. PM Modi had previously said that the criminal trials against the MPs should be taken to a logical conclusion. Recently, the Supreme Court has put the onus on the Modi government to decide whether corrupt ministers should be continued in the government. ● According to a survey by Assocham, Narendra Modi has earned a ranking of eight out of 10. Ahead of its completion of 100 days of government, most corporate leaders have found that the government has brought about a change in the perception about the Indian economy. As per the survey, about 83 percent CEOs, CFOs and CMDs have agreed that India is better now in terms of economic parameters such as trade deficit, exports, industrial output etc. ● The Central government has told the Supreme Court that it is prepared if the Supreme Court orders the cancellation of the coal block allocations.
