011915~Once I met the Flower Man after I got a flat tire while I drove to the Project Row House in 2002. He helped me find a young black man who changed my tire on the spot. I never will forget the Flower Mans beautiful smile... I found that same radiant smile again with Melissa Noble while we drove across Adairs corner on Elgin street in the sunny early afternoon in the middle of our Melrathon run. There we met the Zen Man named Raul Gaona. His Zen garden is between a church and a street corner bar - a rock and cactus garden mixed with his playful collections including Buddha statutes, found objects of bird nests, broken toys, and numerous doll heads like spirited elves, hanging from a huge tree trunk. We told him how much we loved the huge rocks surrounding his house. He responded with humor Id like to see you pick one up... They were sculpted with trashed styrofoam. He told us he meditates every day, goes to work downtown during the week days. The rest of the time, he enjoys rotating his new found objects and assembled them together for his changeable garden.
