02 / Sep / 2013: Russia to equip Afghan northern border forces:- Afghan Ministry of Interior Affairs has said the Russian government has promised to help and equip the northern border forces with latest equipment. Installation of security cameras at the borders, helicopters for patrolling, boats and construction of border stations are the assistance pledged by the Russian government. “Russia will help and install night vision equipment and small copters that can patrol through ten kilometers. These installations will help to monitor the borders,” said Jamal Nasir, deputy interior minister of policy and strategy. He added meetings would be held in near future with border forces of neighboring countries in order better control movements at the both sides of borders. “We need to monitor at both sides of the borders since the explosive materials are brought into Afghanistan from the neighbors.” Recent security issues at the borders between Afghanistan and Central Asian countries have raised the concerns of Russia. Russia has also equipped the Tajikistan border forces with latest equipment.
