03/07/2014 Today’s Meditation: Deuteronomy 8:10-18 Bible on Wealth – Divine Provisions for Your Prosperity 1 And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day Deu 8:18. The blessing of the LORD makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it Pro 10:22. For those blessed by Him shall inherit the earth, But those cursed by Him shall be cut off Psa 37:22. Many children of God are allergic to wealth; many carry the erroneous notion that the poorer a child of God is, the nearer he is to heaven. In many quarters among believers, a mere mentioning of the word prosperity is an indication that one is carnal or worldly. These are all wrong! There is no virtue whatsoever in poverty. The word of God is full of promises of blessing for those who are sincere in their walking with God. When Apostle John the beloved was writing to the beloved Gaius, he was actually stating the mind of God when he said “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers” 3Joh 1:2. It is the mind of God for all His children to prosper in their souls, maintain sound health in their bodies and have good blessing to maintain comfortable lives. To prosper in the soul is for a man to be well established in God. A man who is a stranger to the life of God, a man who is an enemy to God is a dead man and there is no prosperity that makes sense when a man is dead. Any man who is living in sin is dead; he merely exists, he does not have a life. “But she who lives in pleasure is dead while she lives” 1Tim 5:6. A man who dedicates himself to pleasure outside God is a walking corpse. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?” Mat 16:26. But those who prosper first in their souls are those whose souls are well secured in God. These are people who can make meaningful things out of the blessings of God. A complete Christian therefore is a disciple whose soul is rich in God, whose body is sound in health and who lead a comfortable life under God. That is the type of a Christian I love to be. What about you? Poverty does not make a man’s heaven better. In actual fact, there are many disadvantages of poverty in the spiritual walk. However, I am not one of those overzealous “prosperity preachers” who claim that once you are poor you will not make heaven. The word of God gives us a clear view of heaven in the story of Jesus in the sixteenth chapter of the book of Luke from verse nineteen. In that story, we see a rich man, Abraham and a poor man, Lazarus in heaven. The other rich man who was in hell was there not because he was rich in wealth but because he was a carrier of a poor soul. He had wealth but he was a stranger to God. The poorest of all men is not a man who is destitute of worldly goods but a man who possesses all earthly materials and lost his poor soul in hell. So, it is erroneous for any man to teach that once you are wealthy, you will not make heaven. It is true that the word of God says, the love of money is the root of all evil. “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows” 1Tim 6:10. It also says “And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!” Mar 10:23-24. Loving money is not the same thing as having money and trusting in riches is different from having riches.it is not possible for a man to love money and not be greedy. Covetousness, greed, corruption and stealing are all characters of a man who is in love with money. No man can give his heart to two things at the same time. No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon” Mt 6:24. A man who has committed his heart to the love of and the pursuit of money is lost; such a man can never be a true follower of God. What the word of God is against is not actually the money but the love of it; it is not the wealth but the trusting in it. These are all issues of the heart. A man whose heart is totally dedicated to God will possess wealth and the wealth will not possess him but a man whose heart runs after wealth is a slave of wealth. A man can have money without the money having him. That is how a true disciple must be. Beloved, I trust God to help us do an in-depth study on this subject. I have seen and heard about many children of God being forced into stealing and many dubious deals because of poverty. Many are pretenders whose lives inside are rotten with many unclean dealings just to survive. You cannot continue to struggle with stealing and dubious dealings and have an assurance of heaven. We will deeply study the word to discover simple ways of having comfortable lives as children of God. Follow the messages closely, read all the references carefully and pray that God will open your understanding to the word of God. Be careful also to follow the principles you are learning because what you know is not useful until you act on your knowledge. Do not fail to invite all your friends especially believers to share in these messages. It may be all someone very close to you need for a permanent change and a great testimony. Pray also for me, that the Spirit of the Lord will give me deeper revelations of the mind of God from His word as I release myself for this assignment. May you find favour and grace in all you do from today in Jesus name. May the hand of God hold your hand for success in all you do in Jesus name. Go out today and stand for the kingdom of God and it shall be well with you. You are blessed! Feel free to ask questions as we study on in this series. Add your friends to the group to learn the truth; share the messages with them if you can.
