03 March 2014 Lianhe Zaobao Creating “homes” for marine plants and animals on seawalls (Page 8) In today’s edition of Lianhe Zaobao, there was a report on the work of Ms Lynette Loke, a PhD candidate at the Department of Biological Sciences at the NUS Faculty of Science, who is studying ways to enhance the diversity of biological communities in seawalls. She found that the introduction of concrete tiles filled with complex pits and grooves can harbour biodiversity. She has installed 720 tiles, which are designed by her, onto seawalls with the help of her supervisor Assistant Professor Peter Todd of the NUS Department of Biological Science, and will be studying the types of plants and animals that develop in the tiles. origin-realtime.zaobao.sg/news/singapore/story20140303-316137
