0430 Thursday, January 22, 2015. AIR RAID!!!!! This is the Emergency Alert System… Oh dear God, what now?! I look down at the Brick on my nightstand (yes, it’s plugged in!). It reads 133. NICE! But there is an alert icon indicating the Brick has lost contact with Dexie. I try to do as much troubleshooting on my own as humanly possible at 4:30am. I give up pretty quickly, pick up the iBat Phone and call in for help. After almost a half hour of trouble shooting, the system is back on track and I’M WIDE AWAKE ☹ I attempt to go back to sleep but the dog thinks it’s time for breakfast, so out I go to start the day. I actually love the quiet of the morning before the house comes alive. It gives me much time to think and process everything from the prior day. This is when I do most of my writing which, oddly enough, has become something I look forward to. As most of you know, I am a woman of many words but I have never been one to put my thoughts down on paper; they come out of my mouth too fast! This morning I reflect on the connections I have made and fostered over the past two weeks. I had no idea what effect my storytelling would have. So far, I have been told both directly and indirectly that people as far away as England, Australia and Germany are reading my tales. Some are friends; some are people I have never met. As well, I have met new people here in town who knew about my adventure. Today, I was introduced to a mom of a newly diagnosed 6 year old at my daughter’s school. She said, “Ah are you Aimee Jose? The one on Facebook?” Go no further, I was floored. I did a little show & tell for her and perhaps evoked a bit of h.o.p.e. (Helping Other People Excel) during this dark and challenging time. I do what I do without effort. I am who I am and do not pretend to be otherwise. I am not perfect. I am in no way the poster child of diabetes. I am just another number who’s life is surrounded by numbers. To anyone who is reading these crazy posts, thank you for listening. Thank you for taking the time to see what life is like for others. Thank you for learning…
