05/08/13 Rom. 6:18 (KJV) “Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness”- In this text some scholars trace the idea of “sacral manumission” (a slave could be freed from the service of one master by officially becoming the property of a divinity). It is impossible to be neutral. Every person has a master—either righteousness or sin. We serve a righteous God who is in the process of transforming us to into the likeness of His own Son, so that we can one day share in glorious resurrection to eternal life. The freedom brought by GRACE does not provide “carte blanche” to continue in sin. On the contrary, grace places the believer under obligation to holiness (1Pet.1:16) and growth in righteousness.
