05-11-2013 Press Release BRTA seeks support for it’s projects. As a voluntary, free-will, people association since 1997, BRTA currently advocates a more joined-up local, mixed use, accessible and affordable rail network and associated bus, cycle, pedestrian and parking-land-use balance to be improved in as timely a manner as can be achieved. Contextually the East West Consortium’s Oxford-Bedford (2018), the extension of the Marston Vale Rail component of the East West Western Link to Milton Keynes Central Station, it’s electrification, more substantive parking at the various halts to attract A421/A509 South of Chichley commuters, freeing up spaces at Bletchley, Bedford, Flitwick (A507) and Leighton Buzzard (off A5 at Hockliffe) for urban users. BRTA calls for the whole Oxford-Bedford-Cambridge as one project to have been given, with segments as a ‘work in hand’; which informs confidence in a direction of intent, so other plans and aspecting dynamics can be tailored, boosting confidence, rather than leaving half-baked uncertainty, predicated upon an flimsy foundational platform of energy costs, crisis of supply-demand and poor performance of I.T. projects across the spectrum. We welcome membership, sponsorship, offers to provide voluntarily expertise to achieve our goals, succinctly: 1. Studies, protection and adopting for Bedford-Northampton rail infrastructure project as an extension for Thameslink to Northampton and vice versa. With St Pancras-Thameslink Great Northern via Stevenage and Biggleswade, with East West; a loop south of Bedford for dual use and thus the missing link between Bedford and East Bedfordshire. This part should be shared by the Thameslink Franchises and East West Consortium. The Office for Rail Regulation (ORR), Industry Configuration and flexibility, should be reformed to enable a more flexible, inclusive and obligated ‘interested’ approach, attitude and culture, than just myopic confining to existing, largely London centric, peak time focus’ and their own ‘patches’ of existing services. 2. Stations at Interchange Retail Park Kempston, Ampthill for Centre Parcs, the A507 and Central Beds Growth Area with critical access to/from it from Froghall Road, widening safer access and scope of appeal. BRTA Spokesperson said “BRTA has quietly been getting on with it’s transport agenda, which is critical to make any calls for more sustained employment, squaring costs of drive time and equal opportunities inclusive of all, not just an ever more concentrated few. Our website has all the necessary information on what we are about and are seeking to do. We would welcome Cllr Charles Roydon, Portfolio Holder of Transport and Environment to sit down and discuss our ideas with us and fairly consider how they may be conducively worked with at Council level also.” End of Press Release For any further comment, which is welcome: Richard Pill 01234 330090 or email [email protected]. Our website: brta-bedford.org.uk is also comprehensive and links and mentions are welcome too.
