05/28/2014 We have been given a one week reprieve to save the problem dogs - bullies. Please help us.. Read on.. This is Ash - labeled aggressive by the Lewisburg Animal Shelter and minutes away from being killed because of it before ARATT was able to find a placement for him. Dogs that exhibit shelter stress are often labeled aggressive so the shelter can justify killing them, when all they need is time, someone who understands their particular needs, and to decompress. We have been told by the Lewisburg Animal Shelter that there are FIVE dogs they have labeled aggressive and who they will kill TODAY. Cedar, Caramel, Happy Feet, Dizzy and Highball are all on their kill list for today unless we can find an appropriate placement for them. Just thought you would all be happy to see a video and know that the very aggressive Ash from the Lewisburg Animal Shelter Volunteers has been tested in every way possible and not shown one ounce of aggression to anyone or other animals, in any way. Just been a playful loving dog. He is going to have to go through a very rigorous testing period due to his placement because of aggression, but the temporary foster is quite likely going to adopt him. Specific precautions were taken with Ash because of believed behaviors, and it protected the vols and saved his life. That was a really good thing! He is playing with kids and sleeping in a soft bed tonight because of it. . Good dogs sometimes need specific precautions taken - like Ash - while they are in a fight for their life in a kill pound - evolving into a humane shelter. We are working hard to move dogs out the door instead of believing they are better off dead when they have shown no aggression to humans, when there are open kennels.
